América Rosario Gaviria Pabón is a researcher whose work focuses on the experiences of Spanish-speaking communities during severe weather events. She earned a Bachelor of Science in physical sciences from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and both her Master of Science and PhD in geography and environmental sustainability from The University of Oklahoma. Her research explores how language, culture, past experiences, and access to information shape how Spanish speakers understand weather risks and make protective decisions during storms. Through her work, she aims to improve weather communication by helping agencies better connect with multilingual and multicultural communities.
