Researcher

Beijing Normal University

Bo Chen Joined Beijing Normal University, China in 2014 and he is an assistant professor in the Academy of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management. He studied as an undergraduate (2002-2006) and graduate (2006-2008) student at Beijing Normal University majoring in Geographic Information System and disaster prevention.

Chen received a PhD (2014) from the University of Iowa in water resources and hydrology. When pursuing his degree, he was involved in flood inundation mapping, research on hydrologic science through exploratory data analysis and field experiments, and developing hydrologic models.

Chen’s scientific interests concern surface hydrology and disaster reduction. His current research focuses on understanding of hydrologic processes across scales through field experiment and modeling, and the assessment of and dealing with flood risk.
