Guy Carpenter
Guillermo Franco is Managing Director and Global Head of Catastrophe Risk Research at Guy Carpenter. He coordinates Guy Carpenter’s Model Suitability Analysis (MSA)® globally and supports the design of parametric securitizations in conjunction with GC Securities. He also leads Guy Carpenter’s CAT Risk Studio group in Dublin within the Marsh & McLennan Innovation Centre. Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Franco was a manager and principal engineer at AIR Worldwide’s headquarters in Boston, where he participated in the development of several earthquake models and headed the Decision Analytics practice focusing on portfolio optimization and parametric risk transfer.
Prior to entering the reinsurance industry, he was a research fellow at Columbia University’s Earth Institute in New York where he studied the socioeconomic impact of natural hazards in developing countries. During his career, he has participated in disaster field research in the United States, Italy, Turkey, Chile, East Timor, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Nepal.
Franco is a structural engineer and holds MSc, MPhil and PhD degrees in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from Columbia University in New York and a BSc from the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.
