Bill Lovekamp

Bill Lovekamp is a sociology professor at Eastern Illinois University with training in the sociology of disasters, collective behavior, social movements, race/ethnicity, and gender studies. His research generally focuses on disaster preparedness, recovery, and social vulnerability of diverse human populations. Lovekamp is also the former president of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on the Sociology of Disasters. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters and is co-editor of Social Vulnerability to Disasters. He is co-author of Cemeteries and the Life of a Smoky Mountain Community and co-producer of the documentary film Nature's Fury and the Human Spirit: The Charleston and Mattoon Tornado 26 May 1917. Some of his more recent research has appeared in HazNet, the Natural Hazards Observer, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, Association of Gravestone Studies Quarterly, Markers, Teaching Sociology, and the Journal of Criminal Justice Education.
