Climate Variation, Climate Change, and Local Responses

Tue. 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Interlocken A

Although there are often variations in quality and large uncertainties associated with forecasts, there is information available that might help local communities mitigate and plan for seasonal and intermediate variations in weather patterns (e.g., unusually heavy rains accompanied by frequent flooding). Longer-term climate change could also be addressed with forecasting. Communities, however, vary in how they incorporate such information into mitigation and preparedness measures, as well as in their views on usefulness. This session will explore the barriers to using forecasts and ways to overcome them.
