Annika Doneghy

Annika Doneghy is a PhD candidate studying medical anthropology at Case Western Reserve University. She received a Master of Public Health from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Arts from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University. Doneghy is a Bill Anderson Fund Fellow and the co-recipient of the 2024 Disability and Disasters Award. Her dissertation research utilizes ethnographic fieldwork to interrogate emergency management, disaster preparedness, and disaster recovery policy and practice in Eastern North Carolina. She draws on insights and narratives from people with disabilities, disability advocates, and disaster and emergency management professionals to examine how everyday disasters complicate preparedness and recovery for people with disabilities. Doneghy’s doctoral research was funded by the National Science Foundation’s Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant. Doneghy is passionate about disability justice, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and is a disability advocate and ally. Her career goal is to work with people with disabilities to advocate for their inclusion in academic, scientific, and government spaces. She plans to complete her PhD program in May of 2027 and hopes to earn a postdoctoral position focused on research and teaching in anthropology.
