Beth Bartel combines a background in geoscience, journalism, science communication, and social science to address disaster risk reduction problems. Broadly, Bartel is interested in how humans live with natural hazards. More specifically, she is interested in how people use information to make decisions about risk reduction, especially pertaining to volcanic hazards. Her areas of focus include evacuation decision-making, hazard assessment production and use, and information availability during crises.
