Isabella Cámara Torres

Isabella Cámara Torres is a researcher and community engagement professional from Puerto Rico with an interest in disaster preparedness, resilience, and equitable community partnerships. Her work focuses on connecting academic research with the real needs of vulnerable communities, specifically in areas exposed to natural hazards such as landslides. In her current role as a research assistant for the LandslideReady program, she has collaborated with municipalities, community leaders, emergency management professionals and researchers to promote education, preparedness, and local capacity-building.
Cámara Torres is dedicated to creating spaces where communities are informed by academia research about landslides and are active participants in finding solutions that reflect their experiences and priorities. Her experience includes coordinating workshops, supporting outreach activities, facilitating communication between the academia and local stakeholders, and contributing to interdisciplinary projects that strengthen resilience in Puerto Rico.
Cámara Torres believes that change starts and happens when research is accessible, practical, and centered in trust with the communities it aims to serve. These experiences have helped her develop strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills while strengthening her commitment to community-centered work.
She is interested in Qualitative research methods and the ways that community knowledge can inform decision making and policy development. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue contributing to projects that connect science, education, and public engagement to support safer and more resilient communities.
