Katya Schloesser

Katya Schloesser is the associate director for Curriculum and Teacher Training at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CEEE). She has led the Hazard Education Awareness & Resilience Task Force project for the last 7 years. The program empowers rural youth to help make their communities more resilient to wildfire, flood and drought by engaging students with local emergency managers, leaders, and community members. Before joining CEEE, Schloesser was most recently a middle school earth science teacher at Gunnison Middle School. She is still a passionate supporter of public education, and joined the Gunnison Watershed School Board in 2025, where she advocates for building stronger family, school, and community partnerships. Schloesser earned her Master of Arts in geography at University of Colorado Boulder studying alpine hydrology, and her Bachelor of Science in environmental science and Bachelor of Arts in latin american studies at the University of New Mexico.
