Saki Yotsui

Saki Yotsui is a research associate for the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at The University of Tokyo. Yotsui studied civil engineering. as an undergraduate at Ritsumeikan University and graduated from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University for her master's and doctoral degrees, focused on quantitatively assessing the reduction of human casualties during earthquakes. Before becoming faculty, she worked at re-insurance broking company for two years as a catastrophe risk analyst. Reducing casualties from natural perils is a priority for Yotsui and motivates her research. Building on her practical experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, she now aims to expand her research to include not only earthquakes but also other natural perils, particularly floods, with the goal of reducing human and physical losses, and exploring the role (re)insurance can play in reducing economic losses.
