Stacey R. Lucason

Stacey Kangipneq Lucason is a dual citizen of the Ninilchik Tribe and the United States of America. She is of Yup’ik and Scandinavian descent and makes her home on Dena’ina lands near Anchorage, Alaska. Lucason is a parent, daughter, community advocate, and serves as a Tribal Research Coordinator with Kawerak, where she supports the interests of Tribes in the Bering Straits Region.
Much of her work has centered expanding access and creating pathways for Indigenous Peoples to thrive across all facets of life. She has contributed to efforts to shape institutions of higher education to better serve Indigenous communities, while continuing to build connections across the Arctic between communities, researchers, and policymakers. She is committed to living authentically as a modern Yup’ik person.
Her areas of expertise include Tribal research governance, Indigenous research ethics and protocols, community-engaged research coordination, and advancing Indigenous leadership in Arctic and Tribal research spaces. Her work also focuses on strengthening Tribal sovereignty through research infrastructure capacity building, co-management advocacy, Tribal workforce development, and supporting emerging Indigenous scientists and future community leaders.
