Tessa Yip

Vermont Agency of Natural Resources

Tessa Yip (she/her) works to help Vermont communities understand and mitigate their riverine flood risk. She combines a previous career in digital marketing and communications with grassroots flood recovery experience and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from the University of Washington in Seattle.

As the Engagement and Community Support Floodplain Manager for the State of Vermont's River Corridor and Floodplain Protection Program, Yip works to educate communities about the National Flood Insurance Program and local floodplain regulations. To provide a basis for understanding regulations, she bolsters this work by creating educational opportunities about river dynamics, different types of flood hazards, and Vermont’s concept of River Corridors.

After her community was inundated by a flood in 2023, Yip helped stand up a long-term recovery group, Community Resilience for the Waterbury Area (CReW), in Central Vermont. She serves on CReW’s Board and chairs the Mitigation Committee.
