Aging and Vulnerability
Wed. 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Interlocken A
Advanced age can significantly influence an individual's socioeconomic status, access to resources, social capital, cognitive ability, and physical mobility. Conditions related to aging interact with these aspects of social vulnerability to pose challenges for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. But this issue has received scant attention compared to other aspects of disaster vulnerability. This session will provide a broad overview of the unique needs of older adults in the context of disasters and present several case studies highlighting the need for a stronger research agenda on this important topic.
