Comparative and International Research on Disasters
Wed. 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Interlocken B
The hazards and disasters research community often calls for comparative studies of disaster policies and practices, but comparative research is rare. What do we know about the ways that different rules and laws affect the processes and politics of disaster management across societies? How well do various international NGOs coordinate in different disaster settings, and how effective are their activities? Panelists will discuss these and related questions, drawing on research from recent disasters in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Haiti.
