The American Geosciences Institute is accepting applications for its annual fellowship, which allows PhD students or recent postgraduates to spend a year in the office of a congressional staff member working on environmental, resource, or natural hazards policy. The Association of State Dam Safety Officials is accepting submissions for its annual student paper competition. Graduate and undergraduate students in any field are welcome to submit papers on dam and levee safety, engineering, regulations, or related topics. Three winners will be awarded a cash prize, travel stipend, and entry to the 2012 Dam Safety Conference, to be held September 16-20 in Denver.
