Amina Meselhe is an undergraduate student at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was selected for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates program for the Summer of 2021. This program, facilitated by the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure, funds about 30 students from engineering and the social sciences each summer.

Meselhe is a rising junior civil engineering major at LSU. She is a first-generation Taiwanese-Egyptian American. Growing up in Louisiana, she has come to understand the importance of developing natural hazards research in a way that can proactively prevent disasters and support communities to recover more rapidly. She has conducted research in several labs at LSU, including the marine and trophic ecology lab, geology and geophysics lab, and geotechnical and civil engineering lab. She has supported and advanced research on topics such as coastal erosion to waste management. This summer, Meselhe will be working at the Natural Hazards Center and CONVERGE while also collaborating with the NSF-funded Structural Engineering Extreme Events Reconnaissance network.
