University of Antwerp

Brecht Volders is a PhD candidate at the Research Group on International Politics (University of Antwerp, Belgium). While Volders broader research interests include terrorism, nuclear terrorism, nuclear proliferation and nuclear security, his doctoral dissertation focuses on whether and why the organizational design of a terrorist group matters for their capability to construct and detonate a (crude) nuclear bomb. He holds a bachelor and master degree criminology, an advanced master degree international relations and diplomacy, and a master degree in strategy and international security. He recently published a peer-reviewed article “assessing the terrorist threat: impact of the group’s organizational design” (Studies in Conflict & Terrorism) and is co-editor (with Tom Sauer) of the edited collection “Nuclear Terrorism: Countering the Threat” (Routledge).
