Denise Gilliam has more than 15 years of experience working with both nonprofit and governmental agencies in the disaster preparedness, response, and recovery arena. Her experience includes extensive collaboration in efforts to create and establish the National Disaster Recovery Framework and the tools and guidance required for the implementation of the Community Planning and Capacity Building Recovery Support Function Annex. Gilliam also has leadership and supervisory experience in the management of long-term community recovery operations in more than eight states and tribal communities to coordinate technical assistance and support to states and impacted communities LTCR Team.

She is currently working with the Voluntary Agency Liaison Coordination group at the Federal Emergency Management Agency as the philanthropic advisor with a focus on philanthropic engagement strategies and new partnership development opportunities. Her most recent experience includes working in the state of Louisiana for several months after 2016 flooding to help facilitate a group of funders to collaborate as the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Alliance.
