Elizabeth Safran

Elizabeth Safran is an associate professor of geological science at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Safran is a geomorphologist witan h emphasis on rivers and landslides. Her current work focuses on what motivates young adults to prepare for disasters, especially earthquakes. In collaboration with colleagues in psychology, computer science, and media studies, she conducts experiments to evaluate how novel forms of risk communication, like short narrative videos or video games, contribute to behavioral change. She collaborates with local and regional emergency managers to integrate their priorities into her team’s tools and to share research and media outcomes.
