Eric Carbone

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Eric Carbone is currently director of the Office of Applied Research within the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His office executes cross-cutting intramural research, engages with external partners, amplifies the research capacity of the center, and evaluates the influence and impact of the research enterprise. The overarching goal of his office is to advance the science supporting preparedness, response, and recovery through OPHPR's research agenda. 

Previously, Carbone served as chief of the Applied Science and Evaluation Branch, also within OPHPR. Before joining CDC, he was director of the Psychological Health Clinical Standards of Care Directorate at the Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, where he managed development and translation of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, along with evaluation of mental health and resiliency programs for the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. He has held a variety of positions in other federal agencies and in private sector consulting. Carbone holds a PhD in clinical psychology and MBA in organizational behavior. He began his career as a U.S. Air Force psychologist.
