Jennifer First is an assistant professor in the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee. Her research is focused on understanding human risk, vulnerability, and adaptive capacity to climate change and disaster events. In particular, her work has explored health impacts, systems of resilience, and risk communication in communities exposed to tornadoes, hurricanes, flash floods, extreme heat, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her research aims to strengthen individual and community capacities for anticipating and responding to environmental challenges, and to reduce inequities in exposure to risk and access to resources.
