Jolie Breeden was formerly the lead editor and science communicator for the Natural Hazards Center. During her lengthy tenure  at the Center, she was closely involved with the Research Awards series, numerous special projects and publications, and website content creation. She is the editor of several Research Counts series and has authored a variety of articles for DR–Research News You Can Use. Her research activities include the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Early Warning and Schools Study. Breeden graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Before joining the Natural Hazards Center in May 2008, she was as a reporter for various Front Range newspapers, including the Broomfield Enterprise, the Longmont Daily Times-Call, the Boulder Daily Camera and the Rocky Mountain News. She retired from the Center in 2024 and currently leads Disasterly, a consultancy focused on building and promoting disaster-related science communication skills and products.
