ISET-International

Karen MacClune is a senior staff scientist with the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition-International. MacClune has more than 20 years of experience combining technical analysis with stakeholder outreach, discussion and process facilitation in support of planning and policy, with work focused in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the United States. Her experience includes urban climate change adaptation and resilience engagement; development of resilience tools and methodologies; training of trainers and resilience process facilitation; and stakeholder engagement across a wide variety of cultural contexts.

Since 2013, MacClune has been working with the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance to jointly develop a methodology for and conduct Post Event Reviews (PERC) of flood disasters. PERC uses a system-wide approach to review disasters, analyzing across scales and sectors, and all aspects of the disaster management cycle—prospective and corrective risk reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery—with an eye to identifying resilience gaps, opportunities, and best practices. A growing library of PERCs is now available, examining a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic contexts.
