Kevin T. Smiley

Kevin T. Smiley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Louisiana State University. Dr. Smiley is an environmental and urban sociologist who studies social vulnerability and resilience to disasters. This research uses an environmental justice perspective to study how social inequalities are embedded in urban space, and how these inequalities relate to rising environmental risks, especially from flooding during extreme weather events. Dr. Smiley is also the author of Market Cities, People Cities (NYU Press, 2018) with Michael Oluf Emerson, and conducts research on disparities in industrial air pollution, climate change, and immigration
