Leslie Maas Cortes is the director of the Environmental Health Division of the Puerto Rico Public Health Trust. The division has federally funded projects on telemedicine for rural clinics and long-term care facilities (Health Resources and Services Administration Telehealth Technology-Enabled Learning Program & U.S. Department of Agriculture), safe drinking water during drought (Enviornmental Protection Agency), and Caribbean Program to Build Resistance Against Climate Effects (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Building Resilience Against Climate Effects). Other projects are certification of death during disasters, ECHO methodology and online resource library. Cortes served as director of the Puerto Rico Hurricane Response Hub and assistant director of the CDC Injury Control Center at Medical College of Wisconsin. Cortes trained at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health on intervention implementation to reduce diabetes in Marshall Islands.
