Miriam Commodore-Mensah holds a masters degree in social work from the Grace Abbott School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska Omaha. She has a strong passion for helping and advocating for the less privilege and under represented population. Mental health, child welfare, and suicide prevention are interest areas she focuses on. Before her masters degree, Commodore-Mensah worked as a social welfare officer, a counselor, and medical social worker in Ghana. Commodore-Mensah is a one of the scholars for the Minority Scholars from Under-Represented Groups in Engineering and the Social Sciences (SURGE) Group Funded by NSF INCLUDES. Her research interest areas are on the mental health issues that arise post disaster and also the aftermath effects of disasters on children.
