Niva Laurent

Niva Laurent is an undergraduate student at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She was selected for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates program for the Summer of 2021. This program, facilitated by the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure, funds about 30 students from engineering and the social sciences each summer.

Laurent will be working at the Natural Hazards Center, CONVERGE, and the Social Science Extreme Events Research network. Her research interests are interdisciplinary, relating to emergency disaster management, public policy, and environmental science. Laurent has also worked as a research assistant at the University of South Florida, studying language and power during the #Sharpiegate incident.
