Olivia Vila is a PhD student in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University. She received a bachelor of science honor's degree in psychology from Colorado State University and a master's degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Canada. Vila is a is part of the Scholars from Under-Represented Groups in Engineering and Social Sciences Capacity in Disasters program and is a Southern Regional Educational Board Fellow.
Throughout Vila's academic career, she has been involved with various types of social-environmental research (weather and climate), but has found her passion with disasters. Specifically, she is interested in the many innovative and creative ways communities can recover from disasters and build community capacity and resilience against future hazards.
