Rachel Rinaldo is an associate professor of sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is interested in gender, globalization, culture, religion, and qualitative methods, with a special focus on the developing world and Muslim societies in Southeast Asia. Her first book, Mobilizing Piety: Islam and Feminism in Indonesia (Oxford 2013), is an ethnographic study of Muslim and secular women activists in the country with the world's largest Muslim population. Rinaldo's current research projects include a study of marriage and divorce in urbanizing Java and a study of the gendered dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US.
