Sela Panapasa is an associate research scientist in the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Her research has made fundamental contributions in the development of epidemiologic and demographic data on multiethnic populations specifically, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders, to support evidence-based interventions, capacity-building in research, and advance health equity. Panapasa research focuses on social support, and the role changes in socio-demographic mechanisms play in the risk of disease and population health. She has served on the national advisory committee for the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health.
