Sophia Banu

Sophia Banu is an associate professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Baylor College of Medicine. She specializes in working with refugees, survivors of torture, and survivors of natural and anthropogenic disasters. She founded the Clinic for International Trauma Survivors to train learners in culturally informed care and cultural humility. Banu co-founded Global Mental Health and is a faculty supervisor for the Physicians for Human Rights Students Chapter. She was the lead psychiatrist at the George R. Brown convention center during Hurricane Harvey. Banu co-authored the book “Handbook of Refugee Experience: Trauma, Resilience and Recovery.”
