Tarek Abichou is a professor of civil and environmental engineering. Abichou received his master's and PhD form the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Some of his research includes designing, analyzing, and testing different components of landfills and other waste containment infrastructures. Abichou has been involved in research that investigates alternative ways to cover solid waste facilities for more than 20 years. He is also known for his research investigating the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from landfills using bio-oxidation of methane using Biocells, Biocovers, and Biofilters. Abichou's research interests include storm debris management, geotechnics of coastal resiliency, living shorelines, and sustainable solid waste management
