Mount Royal University
Tim Haney is associate professor of sociology at Mount Royal University, in Calgary, Alberta, and director of the Centre for Community Disaster Research. His research has focused on how families make evacuation decisions, the various uses of social capital during and after disasters, as well as how experiencing a disaster impacts people's environmental views and practices. His work has been funded by federal grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and has appeared in journals such as Environmental Sociology, Social Currents, Social Science Research, and the Journal of Urban Affairs.
In both 2013 and 2015, Haney took his class of students to New Orleans to learn about disaster recovery and environmental justice, to partner with local organizations, and to serve the community.
