Climate-related disasters pose significant risks to populations who experience health challenges and other social and economic disparities. Evidence-based strategies that address how these events impact those who are disproportionately affected can improve their outcomes—but more data and actionable findings are needed.
The Natural Hazards Center—with support from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation—has issued a special call for quick response research related to the health of those disproportionately affected by climate-driven disasters.
Awards of $10,000 to $50,000 are available to collect perishable, health relevant data that improves the understanding of health, climate-related disasters, and potential protective health measures.
Watch the recorded Q&A Session here.
Proposals should focus on health outcomes for people who are frequently disproportionately impacted by disaster, including pregnant women, children, older adults, people with existing health conditions, those with lower incomes, people of color, and people experiencing homelessness. Work that fills gaps in the literature, implements novel and replicable research designs, or focuses on an understudied groups or topics with practical application potential are especially welcome.
A limited number of quick response research projects will be funded. Proposals will be reviewed and awarded as they are received until funding is depleted. Please join us for the April 4 Q&A session to learn more and visit the special call linked above to read about the award criteria and how to submit your proposal.
