Miami University

Mahauganee Shaw is an assistant professor in the Miami University Student Affairs in Higher Education program, where she teaches a seminar on crisis management in student affairs work. Her research agenda focuses on crisis management for postsecondary institutions, examining organizational behavior and leadership strategies. Through this research, she aims to improve organizational effectiveness within higher education by producing useful findings and tools that can be incorporated into practice and used to enhance both institutional operations and the collegiate experience. Her interest in crisis management research stems from her experiences working through campus emergencies as a full-time student affairs administrator, most notably at an institution in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

Shaw has published some of her work on campus emergency management, and regularly presents this work at national conferences. Additionally, she currently serves the American College Personnel Association’s Commission for Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness as the Vice Chair for Research, Scholarship and Practice.
