Forty Years of Research and Applications

Mon. 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Interlocken A/B

As the Natural Hazards Center celebrates its 40th anniversary, it seems appropriate to take a retrospective look at how research and practice have evolved in fields related to hazards and disasters over the past four decades. Do we now think about hazards and disasters in new ways? What important discoveries have been made over time? And what new questions remain? The speakers in this session—all distinguished long-time researchers and leaders—will address such issues from the perspectives of economics, geography, planning, and sociology.
