Health Impact Assessments and Disaster Recovery

Tue. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Fir

Health impact assessments are a rapidly growing decision support tool used to identify and measure the broad effects of public programs, projects, and proposed actions on human health. Few of the more than 350 completed or are ongoing assessments in the United States, however, address responses to natural hazards and disasters. Efforts are now under way to adapt the health impact assessment process to the post-disaster recovery context. This panel will discuss issues and gather information from workshop participants to help with this adaptation.
