The Natural Hazards Center is accepting ideas for the 50th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop through January 31, 2025.
This year’s theme is The Next 50 Years: Charting a Course for the Hazards and Disaster Field. We’re especially interested in ideas that look back to assess the progress in the field over the last five decades, look forward to envision our desired future, and ask what it will take to achieve our goals.
As Center Director Lori Peek asked during our recent Q&A session, “Where do we want to be five years, ten years, and even fifty years down the road?”
Workshop sessions will help to answer this question. They will also involve panelists who will share new research, policies, and practices to reduce harm and suffering from disasters. As always, the Workshop planning team is looking for submissions that reflect the diverse perspectives and wide-ranging expertise of our hazards and disasters community.
“We want to really solve some of these big problems that we’re facing through conversation, through engaging diverse perspectives, and by connecting people at the Workshop,” said Center Assistant Director Jennifer Tobin.
Not interested in submitting an idea for a Workshop session, but still want to get involved? Please visit our Workshop Opportunities page to learn about more ways to participate.
