The Natural Hazards Center is pleased to share that we have a rare opening to join our team, beginning August 1, 2024. Applications for the position of Science Writer, Editor, and Communicator are now being accepted and will remain open through May 31, 2024.
This position is a key role at the Center, touching every one of our major initiatives, activities, programs, product offerings, and convenings. The person selected will be responsible for content creation, editing, science communication, media relations, and public engagement, among other efforts.
The person who fills this role will be passionate about communicating cutting-edge research and its practical applications. We are, of course, especially interested in hiring someone with expertise related to natural hazards, disasters, or climate change.
Everything we do at the Center is informed by a justice and equity approach and our core values are focused on our commitment to human dignity, collective well-being, scientific understanding, and sustainable hazard mitigation. Interested applicants can learn more about the Center on our website.
Our current editor and science communicator, Jolie Breeden, will be leaving after 16 years of dedicated service. As she turns to the next chapter in her career, she will begin Disasterly, a science communication and writing service focused on heightening the understanding of disaster impacts. While she will remain connected to the Center and the community we serve, we are so sad to see her leave. Thankfully, the imprint of all of her visionary work will remain. Furthermore, her many contributions and lengthy tenure in the position are a testament to the professional satisfaction and growth that this role can offer.
We hope that you will apply or share this opportunity widely. Questions about opening and the hiring process should be directed to Assistant Director Jennifer Tobin at Jennifer.L.Tobin@colorado.edu.
