Natural Hazards Workshop 2016

Please join us for the 41st Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop, Sunday, July 10 through Wednesday, July 13, at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colorado.

We have many interesting and informative sessions planned, featuring topics such as the National Flood Insurance Program, key findings from major hazard research centers, new developments in disaster resilience, and community-based disaster risk reduction approaches.

Workshop participants will find interactive sessions on climate change adaptation, vulnerable communities, risk communication, changes in the field of emergency management, and many other timely topics.

We hope you will join fellow hazards researchers, practitioners, and students from many disciplines for this July’s sessions, social events, and networking opportunities, including the ever-popular barbecue, and the Second Annual Disaster Dash 5K fun run. Here are the details:

Please register by June 13, after which the Omni Hotel will release its block of rooms and late fees may apply. Space is limited, and registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis with no exceptions.

The IRCD Researchers and NHMA Practitioners Meetings will again be held following the main Hazards Workshop, Wednesday, July 13 through Thursday, July 14. These meetings are produced in partnership with the Natural Hazard Mitigation Association and the International Sociological Association's International Research Committee on Disasters.

Abstracts for the IRCD Researchers Meeting and the poster session, as well as Research Highlights submissions for the printed Workshop program are all due May 25. Please consider making a submission so that other Workshop participants can know about your work. Follow the Submission Guidelines links for instructions.

Student Paper Competition. Students can compete for a chance to attend the Workshop by submitting a full-length paper to our Student Paper Competition. Applications are due May 1.
