Public Communication and Seismic Hazards

Wed. 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Centennial F

Natural scientists have trouble communicating scientific findings in ways that help non- and less-than-technical audiences understand and use them. Effective communication requires an understanding of both scientific knowledge and the social contexts in which that knowledge is applied—an understanding that can only be reached through interdisciplinary collaboration. This session explores seismic risk communication challenges during non-disaster times, as well as disasters.
