Working Together to Improve Situational Awareness for First Responders

Tue. 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., Interlocken A

When disaster strikes, first responders and emergency managers need situational awareness on areas of flooding, storm surges, wind damage, damaged buildings, and active rescues. During the 2018 hurricane season, a community of experts converged to meet this need and provide geospatial decision support tools for exchanging information. Panelists in this session will discuss how emergency managers at federal, state, and local emergency operations centers worked with GIS specialists and the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NAPSG) Foundation to collect, manage, and map data to be used by first responders.
