Expanding Diversity for an Equitable and Inclusive Workforce
Tuesday, July 13, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. MDT
Increasing diversity in the hazards and disaster workforce—academic research, emergency management, healthcare, policy, and training, among others—will lead to better outcomes for communities at risk of disaster. But what is diversity and how do we implement it in our everyday practice? Panelists in this session will draw from a wide range of experience in the areas of critical race theory, gendered dimensions of disaster, competency in serving people with access and functional needs, diversifying the healthcare workforce, and best practices for training the next generation of hazards and disaster professionals.
