Joining Forces: Mutual Aid Options for Rebuilding After Disasters

Wednesday, July 14, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. MDT

Restoring the built environment after a disaster has many steps, including inspecting buildings, reviewing development plans, and ensuring that new construction meets disaster-resistant building codes. When local and state resources are strained, mutual aid responders can lighten the workload and keep recovery moving. This session will explore some available options for mutual aid support, currently being organized by professional organizations, and the recent FEMA policy that aims to reimburse this support and other eligible activities related to administering building codes and ordinances. New FEMA products for understanding State mutual aid legislation will also be discussed to inform ongoing workforce efforts across the spectrum to leverage mutual aid opportunities to meet escalating risks and inequalities of today.
