2024 Theme

Planning for Tomorrow: Where We Are Now Vs. Where We Want to Be

The theme of this year’s meeting is Planning for Tomorrow: Where We Are Now Vs. Where We Want to Be.

This theme was chosen to highlight innovative and practical community resilience concepts and initiatives. Program sessions and workshops will focus on fresh insights, broad visions, and layered perspectives to promote long-term resiliency throughout the country. The workshop will aim to share success stories of past and present resiliency implementations that will contribute to a safer tomorrow.

The workshop will encourage practitioners to discuss which disaster risk reduction procedures are working well, which procedures have the potential to work well, and which procedures could be improved. Through active engagement, the National Hazard Mitigation Association hopes to build on the momentum of mitigation and resilience activities through active collaboration and the expansion of networks.

Meeting participants have the opportunity to learn from each other and some of the nation’s brightest mitigation subject matter experts. We will collectively discuss potential strategies and solutions that can help develop implementable and measurable disaster risk reduction measures and projects.

This meeting will feature an opening plenary session, a key note speaker, and a series of discussions focused on key elements of a potential strategy that practitioners can support in partnership with collaborating agencies, organizations, and the private sector. Topics may include but are not be limited to: Implementation of Projects, Capability and Capacity of Varying Communities, Partnerships in the Industry, Building Codes, Plan Alignment, and Addressing Key Policy Initiatives to Enable Equitable Disaster Assistance.
