Training Session: Communication Strategies to Improve Public Information in Disasters
Sunday, July 11, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
There are many information sources available during disasters, and emergency management organizations must engage audiences using multiple methods. This workshop presents strategies for a comprehensive approach to ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent messages that reach communities before, during, and after a disaster. Media relations, social media, and organizational websites are the predominant communication channels, but emergency management should collaborate on shared strategies with community organizations, diversity interest groups, and educational institutions that can amplify emergency management messaging. This training session is intended for public information officers and other emergency management professionals who are responsible for public communication.
