U.S. infrastructure is rife with historical inequities based on race, place, or both. Redlined and marginalized neighborhoods have often received less effective flood control, are more prone to utility outages, and have less say in deciding what highways, power plants, and drilling structures are placed in their neighborhoods. Now, however, there are efforts, such as the presidentially created Justice40 Initiative, that seek to correct the racial and place-based disparities that have existed for far too long. This session will examine how to make the most of momentum and money available to prioritize equitable infrastructure spending and location.
