Amber Khan's research interests focus on long-term housing recovery and displacement among low-income families and other marginalized populations in urban and coastal regions. She is specifically interested in policy solutions to prepare urban areas for the adverse health effects of climate migration and displacement. In addition, she has worked on various research studies examining hospital preparedness for disasters, food security in disasters, and practitioner and academic collaboration in disaster research response.
Khan is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Washington in Seattle, working with Nicole Errett as a primary advisor. Using mixed methods, she works in collaboration with the National Low Income Housing Coalition to assess if and how Public Housing Authorities in the United States prepare, respond, and recover from disasters. She has a BS in molecular biology from the University of California Santa Cruz and an MPH in environmental epidemiology from the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health.
