David O. Prevatt is a professor of civil and coastal engineering at the University of Florida’s Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and the Environment. He currently serves as co-PI and the associate director for wind hazards at the National Science Foundation's Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance (StEER) Network and is vice president of the Board of Applied Technology Council. A member of the University of Florida faculty since 2007, Prevatt has 17 years consulting engineering experience prior to becoming an academic researcher. His structural engineering research focuses on understanding the impacts of wind hazards and mitigating damage to buildings caused by hurricanes and tornadoes, through application of forensic engineering in the field in support of experimental and analytical research in the laboratory.
