Elizabeth Angell is the communications and program manager at the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Her research interests focus on earthquake risk and urban politics in Istanbul, Turkey. She was formerly a doctoral candidate at Columbia University, where she obtained an MPhil in sociocultural anthropology, and holds an M.Phil in modern Middle Eastern studies from the University of Oxford. She previously worked at the Center for International Cooperation and the Open Society Foundations in New York and has taught courses on disaster studies as a lecturer at Columbia and the University of Washington.
